Meditation is a great answer to find comfort in such a stressful time.
The only problem is, it’s hard to find time to meditate nowadays.
So, why not make the most of what we can easily access? The shower!
Come on, is there anything more relaxing than a warm bath or shower after a long, hard day?
It’s not just because the warm water feels good on our skin, but it’s also because of the science behind it.
When you splash water on your face, it triggers the diving reflex.
You instantly feel calmer since your body believes that it is about to swim underwater.
Your heartbeat drops, your body relaxes, and your breathing slows down too.
Shower Meditation is the time when you take control and give yourself a breather.
It is a technique that lets you use water to wash negativities away.
It is a moment of pause. Pause to make time for yourself.
Pause to refocus and assess what needs your attention and what doesn’t. Pause to center and ground yourself.
Aren’t you excited to try it yet?
How Shower Meditation Works
You can make your shower or bath time a moment of zen by trying out meditation.
Warning: Do not attempt shower meditation if you’re dizzy (safety first!)
1. Control Your Surrounding
Before diving into meditation mode, take time to turn off your phone, light some scented candles, play meditation music, and make a bubble bath or use a shower gel. This way, nothing can distract you.
2. Breathe Deeply
As you start your meditation, focus on your breathing. Breathe in positivity and breathe out negativity. Breathe in light, breathe out the dark. With every breath you take, your mind clears as well. Let go of all the worries you have.
3. Find Your Center and Enjoy the Moment
Imagine yourself listening to your inner voice. Look for your center and allow yourself to feel humble and grounded. Allow this moment to uplift you. Keep still for 15 minutes under the shower or in the bathtub. This moment is yours. Use it to clear yourself of your fears, worries, and doubts.
Shower Meditation Guide
- Concentrate on letting your anger, fears, and regrets go down the drain.
- Envision the water, washing away your negative thoughts.
- Imagine that you’re washing your stress away.
- Allow yourself to feel the water caress your skin; let it guide you in releasing what needs to be released.
- Let this time be yours. Use it. Own it.
The great thing about shower meditation is that it makes you connected to all your senses:
The sound of the water, the smell of the candles, the feeling of the shower, and yes, the taste of the water (we all know it’s hard to avoid the water splash in your mouth accidentally).
Remember, if you have time to shower, then you have time to meditate.
Now, share this secret with your family and friends!
Just make sure to take turns using the shower!
