Have you heard ever heard Halloween referred to as Samhain?

Do you know what that means?

There is deeper, spiritual significance to Halloween and it can be traced right back to the Celts

and Pagans of ancient Britain and Ireland.

They celebrated a festival called Samhain (pronounced Sow-in)

which was the final harvest festival of the season,

a day considered to be the beginning of the winter period,

celebrated at the exact point between the Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice.

During this festival, the souls of people who had died were thought to return to visit their homes

and people lit bonfires on hilltops to frighten away evil spirits.

Often they wore masks and other disguises to not be recognized by the ghosts,

which is why witches, fairies, and other spirits have come to be linked to the day.

Samhain or Halloween in our modern world can still take on this deeper, spiritual significance beyond the candies and dress-up parties!

The ancient Celts always celebrated death as a natural part of life.

A time to honor ancestors and gain profound insight into the subconscious, the hidden realms.

It’s a beautiful time to honor those who have left us earth-side,

and to remember that they are still very present with us in spirit.

You can celebrate Samhain or Halloween in your own way by observing the endless cycle of death

and rebirth that is in the very fabric of our existence.

Release and Surrender

One way to do this is to reflect on anything that you have had to release this year,

whether that be habits, beliefs, friendships, relationships, a job, or a way of living.

It’s a great time to then celebrate the new energy that will always come to fill the spaces left by what has been let go of.

Whenever you release something from your life,

you actually upgrade yourself vibrationally, and are able to manifest more easily.

It’s like shedding energetic weight!

Consciously releasing lower emotions, negativity, outdate thought patterns,

and old, toxic energies that are connected to your past will release you and make way for new manifestations.

Think of how the trees are naturally losing their leaves at this time of year.

They are showing us that releasing is a good thing.

Shedding the old and letting go of what has been, allowing it to fall away leaves a powerful opening!

This is absolutely crucial in making space for magic and miracles in your life.

Energy Clearings

You could take some time to cleanse your energy with a relaxing warm salt bath,

or by doing a clearing meditation, or even by actually cleansing your home and energy

with candles, sage, palo santo, essential oils and intention.

Journaling about the things that you have released this year

or the things you wish to release in order to usher in new energy and new opportunities can help to clear your mind

and help you see things with a fresh perspective.

Try spending thirty minutes just free-writing or making lists

of what you intuitively feel has been released from your life this year,

or what you still know you need to let go of and reflect upon what they are.

Connect with Spirit Realms

Of course, Halloween or Samhain is a time when the spirit world is perceived as being more active,

when the veil between realms is thinner.

That means this is a good time to use your intuition and consciously connect with the realms of spirit

and honor your ancestors, or loved ones in spirit.

It’s possible to feel more psychic around this time,

with your intuition heightened and more tuned into messages and guidance from angels and spirit guides.

If you want to focus on this, hold an amethyst stone and direct your awareness towards the energy of love.

You can ask in your mind or out loud:

“Angels and spirit guides, help me to clearly know your presence in my life now. Help guide me to see my next best steps, so that I can know my way forward and align with my highest purpose in this lifetime”
