Did you know that we each contain a combination of both masculine and feminine energies, regardless of our gender or how we identify ourselves? Being a man does not mean you only have masculine energy and being a woman does not mean you only contain feminine energy. Just like night and day, light and dark, yin and yang, masculine and feminine energies are two poles that are an integral part of everything that exists in the Universe. Every single one of us contains these energies to varying degrees, some leaning more towards one end of the spectrum and some the other. The beauty of each of us as individuals means that we each represent and lead from different energy combinations.
Many traditions and cultures have embraced and explored the idea of the divine masculine and divine feminine. Chinese philosophy sees male as yang and female as yin, within yogic traditions Shiva is the masculine and Shakti the feminine, and in ancient South American traditions these two energies were defined as the eagle and the condor. In our Western culture we have divided feminine and masculine into somewhat fixed, stereotypical ideas of gender. We see the feminine as soft, emotional and sensitive and the masculine as hard, rational and mind-oriented.
It’s pretty normal to have a dominance of one energy over the other, one that we lead from more often than not. Not only that, our energies can differ and change during our lives or at different stages of our personal growth. Your energy will even shift according to the situation you are in or the people you are communicating with. Of course it’s not always going to be possible to have your energies in perfect balance, however it is ideal to keep things as balanced as possible, just like anything else in life.
