The Sacral Chakra is the second major root chakra of the body’s seven main chakras, and one of the most important energy centers of your being. It’s the epicenter of life and vitality, hugely vital for your energy, connection with others and sexuality.
It is from this chakra that your creativity, motivation, sense of purpose and energy flows.
It is from this chakra that you feel excited to wake up in the morning with a sense of joy to be alive and look forward to each day of your life.
The Sacral Chakra is found about 2 inches below your navel, midway between your belly button and the base of your spine.
Experiencing a blocked Sacral Chakra is pretty common, at some point everyone will need to tend to theirs and bring it back to equilibrium.
The good news is that there are some very easy, soothing and accessible ways to balance your Sacral Chakra and you can easily incorporate these into your life to recharge and restore your vibrance and well-being.
How do you know if your Sacral Chakra needs balancing?
Signs of a blocked Sacral Chakra include:
- Feeling fearful or depressed
- Overwhelmed
- Anxiety
- Lack of motivation
- Lack of energy
- Digestive issues/ sluggish metabolism
- Stagnant or stuck feelings
- Fear of losing control or being controlled by others
- Creative blocks/ blocked mind
- Loss of sex drive
- Being a perfectionist to your detriment
- Lack of self worth
- Emotionally unstable
- Addictions
How do you balance your Sacral Chakra?
I like to take a varied approach to balance my Sacral Chakra, including physical, mental, emotional and energetic modes of healing.
That way there is something for everyone, whether you prefer to heal with food, affirmations, breathing, meditation or yoga. There is always another perspective to take or another activity to try out.
Do them all, or use what works for you, and leave the rest.
1. Eat to Nourish your Sacral Chakra
The color related to the sacral chakra is orange, so adding more orange-color based foods to your diet is a great way to come into alignment with that chakra.
Think Sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, mangoes, nuts and seeds, butternut squash, orange citrus, tangerines, clementines, nectarines, peaches, melon and fermented foods such as Kombucha and Kimchi are excellent.
2. Healing with Orange Crystals
Tigers Eye, Carnelian, Citrine, Orange Carnelian and Amber are all wonderful crystals for the Sacral Chakra.
The best way to incorporate crystals into your healing is to meditate with them, either holding them in your palm or lying down with the crystals on your body.
You can create a crystal grid in your home or place these crystals near you while you work or go about your daily chores.
3. Deep Belly Breathing
Doing deep belly breathing is an amazing way to charge up some vibrant energy and balance your Sacral Chakra. Our breath is the most natural way we have to move stuck or stagnant emotions in the body, it’s truly an incredible tool that you can use every day.
Fire is also the natural element of this chakra, so deep breaths in the belly/ sacral area works to activate and tap into that energy.
Place your hands on your belly and inhale deeply, as you do feel your belly and rib cage expanding. Fill it up as much as you can and then release. Do this as often as needed, but at least 5 times. As you exhale and release feel your stress evaporating and as you inhale, feel the energy of that chakra firing up again in a healthy way.
4. Yoga Poses
You can move stagnant or blocked energy around with some hip opening poses and light stretches that aid the abominable muscles.
Try the cat/cow pose, warrior pose, goddess pose and butterfly pose to get some energy moving in the Sacral Chakra.
Dance and movement is also a beautiful way to free up energy and tap into your true essence. Just let yourself go with the music, improvise and free flow! Be brave. You’ll feel amazing afterwards I promise!
5. Meditate and be Still
It’s important to take time to be still and let your mind settle. An overactive or stagnant Sacral Chakra can indicate a need to get in touch with your emotions and process them.
Fit ten minutes of stillness into every day whereby you simply allow yourself to relax and your mind to become present. This is a wonderful time to hold one of your orange crystals in your hand as you meditate.
You can also picture your sacral energy center filling up with radiant orange light and healing in a healthy, balanced way.
6. Affirmations and Mantras
After you meditate is a great time to recite some affirming mantras to boost your Chakra energy. Try reciting the following every morning. It might seem weird at first but it gets easier the longer you stick at it. Try to feel each mantra’s truth and you will begin to rewire your brain in a positive way.
- I am strong and confident and I stand in my power.
- I heal when I allow myself to feel.
- I know who I am and I trust in my forward path.
- I have the dedication, passion and motivation to live my dreams.
7. Creative Work
Do something creative to engage with your emotions, be it journaling, writing poems, sketching or taking photos.
When you draw upon your creativity you awaken and activate Sacral Chakra energy, getting it moving and flowing again. This can be incredible for raising your frequency and making you feel strong, powerful and confident.
Chakra balancing is something you can get better at the more you do it. These practices will help you to get that energy flowing again in a bright, healthy way and support you on your path to confidence, happiness, abundance and self-love.
